Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

CPAP, or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, is a method of respiratory ventillation used to treat Sleep Apnea. It is common for air passageways to become narrowed due to muscle-relaxation at night. This can obstruct breathing, leading to interrupted sleep. Through the use of air pressure, CPAP opens up narrowed air passages, allowing the patient to breathe unobstructed, and allowing him or her to sleep on through the night.

Patients may also be interested in APAP (Automatic Positive Airway Pressure), or BPAP(Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure), two methods of CPAP which automatically adjust the air pressure output to the minimum necessary level for maximum comfort.

Want to know if you’d benefit from CPAP? At the Sleep Center we offer refferals for oral appliances and ENT evaluations.
